Penquis Cap Data Breach – Investigated by Federman & Sherwood

Oklahoma City, Oklahoma (June 30, 2025) – Federman & Sherwood, a law firm dedicated to consumer protection and data breach litigation, is investigating a recently disclosed data security incident involving Penquis Cap, a Maine-based healthcare organization headquartered in Dexter, Maine.

According to a notification filed with the Maine Attorney General’s Office, the breach stemmed from the loss or theft of a device or physical media—such as a computer, external hard drive, or thumb drive—containing sensitive personal information. The incident reportedly occurred on June 27, 2025, though it was originally discovered over a year earlier, on April 12, 2024.

The breach affected the personal information of three individuals, all of whom are Maine residents. The compromised data included names and other personal identifiers. Notifications to affected individuals were made via telephone on June 27, 2025, more than a year after the initial discovery. Notably, identity theft protection services were not offered to those impacted.

Federman & Sherwood is investigating the circumstances surrounding the delayed notification, the security protocols in place at Penquis Cap, and whether proper safeguards were implemented to protect sensitive healthcare-related information.

The compromised information may have included:

  • Name
  • Social Security numbers
  • Other sensitive information
