Mercadien Data Breach – Investigated by Federman & Sherwood
June 15, 2026 – Federman & Sherwood, a national consumer protection law firm, is investigating the Mercadien data breach, a cybersecurity incident involving unauthorized access to sensitive personal information that was reported to the Attorney General of Maine.
According to the notice, Mercadien, P.C. CPAs experienced a data security incident that affected information maintained on behalf of its clients. The incident was discovered and disclosed to impacted organizations on or about May 21, 2026. Mercadien’s investigation determined that an unauthorized third party accessed a location containing sensitive personal information.
The information potentially exposed includes names, dates of birth, addresses, Social Security numbers, Individual Taxpayer Identification Numbers, financial account numbers, and government-issued identification numbers, including driver’s license and passport numbers.
Data breaches involving accounting, tax, and advisory firms are particularly concerning because these organizations maintain substantial amounts of sensitive financial and personal information that may be used for identity theft, tax fraud, and financial fraud.
Federman & Sherwood is actively investigating whether Mercadien implemented reasonable cybersecurity safeguards and whether this data security incident could have been prevented. The firm is also evaluating potential legal claims on behalf of individuals affected by the Mercadien data breach.
Mercadien reported that affected individuals are being offered twenty-four (24) months of complimentary credit monitoring and identity protection services through Experian IdentityWorks.
