Banner Capital Bank Data Breach – Investigated by Federman & Sherwood

March 13, 2026 – Federman & Sherwood is investigating a data breach involving Banner Capital Bank following a notification filed with the Attorney General of Maine.

According to the notice, Banner Capital Bank identified suspicious activity associated with an employee email account and promptly launched an investigation. The investigation determined that an unauthorized individual may have accessed the account between August 20, 2025 and September 11, 2025.

Banner reviewed messages and attachments within the affected email account and determined that certain files may have contained personal information belonging to affected individuals. The information potentially involved included individuals’ names in combination with financial account numbers.

The bank reported that the incident did not involve access to other bank systems, no customer account balances were accessed, and no funds were transferred or attempted to be transferred.

Banner Capital Bank has stated that it has taken steps to secure the affected account and is implementing additional security measures to strengthen the protection of its email systems.

Federman & Sherwood is investigating whether adequate safeguards were in place to protect sensitive personal information and whether affected individuals may have legal claims related to this cybersecurity incident.
