Woodfords Family Services Data Breach – Investigated by Federman & Sherwood

March 31, 2026 – Federman & Sherwood announces that it is investigating a data security incident involving Woodfords Family Services following a breach notification submitted to the Maine Attorney General.

According to the notice, Woodfords Family Services identified suspicious activity within its network on or about April 8, 2024. The incident was determined to be a ransomware attack associated with the Medusa threat group, which resulted in unauthorized access to certain systems and potential data exfiltration.

Following the incident, Woodfords initiated a forensic investigation and undertook an extensive review process to determine the scope of impacted information. The review concluded that personal information belonging to thousands of individuals may have been involved.

The types of information potentially exposed include individuals’ names in combination with sensitive data such as Social Security numbers, driver’s license numbers, financial account information, medical and treatment information, and health insurance details.

Woodfords Family Services has reported that it implemented measures to secure its systems, engaged cybersecurity professionals, and is offering affected individuals complimentary credit monitoring, fraud consultation, and identity theft restoration services. Notifications to impacted individuals were issued by mail.

Federman & Sherwood is evaluating whether Woodfords Family Services maintained reasonable cybersecurity safeguards and whether individuals affected by this data breach have viable legal claims.

  • Driver’s license number
  • Financial information
  • Medical information
  • Health insurance information
  • Other sensitive information
