Trocaire College Data Breach – Investigated by Federman & Sherwood

January 29, 2026– Federman & Sherwood is investigating a data breach involving Trocaire College, following a notification filed with the Maine Attorney General.

According to the filing, Trocaire College identified unusual activity within its network on or about March 13, 2025. An investigation determined that certain data may have been accessed or acquired without authorization in connection with the incident. Trocaire College completed its review of the potentially affected data on December 4, 2025, and began notifying impacted individuals shortly thereafter.

The information potentially involved varies by individual but may include names, Social Security numbers, driver’s license or state identification numbers, and passport numbers. Trocaire College reported that approximately seven Maine residents were affected. Written notice was provided to impacted individuals on January 16, 2026.

Trocaire College stated that it implemented additional security measures and is offering 12 months of complimentary identity protection services through IDX, including credit monitoring, identity theft recovery services, and insurance coverage.

Federman & Sherwood is investigating whether Trocaire College implemented reasonable cybersecurity safeguards, whether the incident could have been prevented, and whether affected individuals may have legal claims arising from the breach.

The compromised information may have included:

  • Full name
  • Social Security number
  • Passport number
  • Driver’s license number
  • Other sensitive information
