The West Series of Lockton Companies, LLC Data Breach – Investigated by Federman & Sherwood
June 15, 2026 – Federman & Sherwood, a national consumer protection law firm, is investigating the Lockton data breach, an incident involving the unauthorized disclosure of sensitive employee information that was reported to the California Attorney General.
According to the notice, The West Series of Lockton Companies, LLC, an insurance brokerage firm providing employee benefit services to Dexcom, Inc., discovered that on April 29, 2026, an Excel file containing employee information was inadvertently shared with three vendors participating in a request for proposal process involving employee benefit services.
Lockton reported that the file contained information that was not intended to be disclosed to the vendors. Access to the file was promptly revoked, and the recipients either confirmed deletion of the file or reported that they never accessed it. Although Lockton stated that there is no indication of misuse and believes misuse is unlikely, the company issued notifications out of an abundance of caution.
The information potentially exposed includes employee names, Social Security numbers, dates of birth, and certain employee benefits election information.
Unauthorized disclosure incidents involving Social Security numbers and benefits-related information are particularly concerning because they may increase the risk of identity theft, employment-related fraud, and unauthorized use of personal information.
Federman & Sherwood is actively investigating whether The West Series of Lockton Companies, LLC implemented adequate safeguards and controls to protect sensitive employee information and whether this disclosure could have been prevented. The firm is also evaluating potential legal claims on behalf of individuals affected by the Lockton data breach.
Lockton reported that it reviewed and strengthened its internal controls and is providing affected individuals with two (2) years of complimentary Experian IdentityWorks credit monitoring and identity protection services.
Consumers who received a notice regarding the Lockton data breach or who believe their personal information may have been compromised are encouraged to monitor financial accounts, credit reports, and employment-related records for suspicious activity.
The potentially compromised information may include:
- Names
- Social Security numbers
- Dates of birth
- Employee benefits election information
- Other sensitive information
