Temple Adat Shalom Sisterhood Data Breach – Investigated by Federman & Sherwood
August 17, 2026 – Federman & Sherwood, a national consumer protection law firm, is investigating the Temple Adat Shalom Sisterhood data breach involving the unauthorized use of personal information collected in connection with its Mah Jongg Tournament and National Mah Jongg League card sales.
According to the notice filed with the California Attorney General, a former volunteer accessed and used information maintained by Temple Adat Shalom Sisterhood without the knowledge or permission of Sisterhood or Temple leadership. The information had been collected from individuals registering for Mah Jongg tournaments and National Mah Jongg League card sales.
The incident initially occurred in January 2026, when the former volunteer allegedly used the information for targeted advertising. After complaints were received, the former volunteer was instructed to cease using the information and agreed to do so. However, in July 2026, Sisterhood leadership learned of another advertising campaign and determined that the former volunteer had retained the information. Written demands were subsequently made that the information be deleted and no longer used.
The personal information involved includes first and last names, email addresses, telephone numbers, physical addresses, and activity preferences related to tournament participation or card purchases.
Federman & Sherwood is investigating the circumstances surrounding the Temple Adat Shalom Sisterhood data breach, including whether reasonable safeguards were in place to protect personal information and whether affected individuals may have legal claims arising from the unauthorized access and use of their information.
The potentially compromised information may include:
- Names
- Addresses
- Telephone numbers
- Email addresses
- Other sensitive information
