South Bay Credit Union (“SBCU”) Data Breach – Investigated by Federman & Sherwood
Oklahoma City, Oklahoma (May 14, 2025) – Federman & Sherwood, a national law firm specializing in data breach litigation, is investigating a data security incident recently disclosed by South Bay Credit Union (“SBCU”).
According to a notice issued by SBCU, on or about November 18, 2024, the credit union identified suspicious activity involving one of its employee’s email accounts. Following this discovery, SBCU launched an internal investigation with the assistance of third-party cybersecurity specialists. It was later determined that an unauthorized party had gained access to the email account, which contained personal information belonging to certain individuals.
The compromised data may include individuals’ names in combination with sensitive personal information. While SBCU stated there is no indication that the information has been misused, it has begun notifying affected individuals and is offering complimentary credit monitoring and identity protection services.
