PeoplesBank Data Breach – Investigated by Federman & Sherwood

October 1, 2026 – Federman & Sherwood is investigating the PeoplesBank data breach following a notification filed with the Vermont Attorney General.

According to the filing, the PeoplesBank data breach affected 30 Vermont residents, with additional individuals potentially affected nationwide. Information potentially affected includes government-issued identification numbers and biometric information.

Financial institutions maintain highly sensitive customer information. Government identification and biometric information can present particular privacy and security concerns because biometric identifiers generally cannot be changed in the same manner as passwords or account credentials if compromised.

Federman & Sherwood is investigating whether PeoplesBank implemented reasonable cybersecurity safeguards to protect sensitive customer information and whether additional security measures could have prevented or reduced the impact of the data breach.

The potentially compromised information may include:

  • Names
  • Government-issued identification numbers
  • Biometric information
  • Other sensitive information
