Oklahoma City, Oklahoma (September 17, 2025) – The law firm of Federman & Sherwood announces an investigation into a reported data breach involving Peña Briones McDaniel & Co., PC (“Peña Briones”), a professional services firm.
According to a notice filed with the Maine Attorney General, Peña Briones determined on February 12, 2025, that an unauthorized individual may have accessed an employee email account. After working with external cybersecurity experts to conduct a forensic investigation and extensive document review, the firm confirmed on August 20, 2025, that personal data may have been subject to unauthorized acquisition.
The types of information potentially involved include personal identifiers, and while Peña Briones reports no evidence of fraud or misuse, the sensitive nature of the data creates potential risk of identity theft. On September 16, 2025, Peña Briones began mailing notification letters to impacted individuals, including residents of Maine.
As a precaution, the firm is offering affected individuals a complimentary membership with IDX identity theft protection services, which includes credit and CyberScan monitoring, a $1,000,000 insurance reimbursement policy, and fully managed identity theft recovery services. Impacted individuals also received guidance on placing fraud alerts or credit freezes, obtaining free credit reports, and monitoring their accounts for unusual activity.
