North Carolina Board of Cosmetic Art Examiners (NCBCAE) Data Breach – Investigated by Federman & Sherwood
Oklahoma City, Oklahoma (July 9, 2025) – Federman & Sherwood, a national law firm specializing in data privacy and cybersecurity litigation, is investigating a data breach involving the North Carolina Board of Cosmetic Art Examiners (NCBCAE) following its recent notification to the Maine Attorney General’s Office.
According to the submitted report, on November 27, 2024, NCBCAE discovered suspicious activity within its email system. A forensic investigation later confirmed that an unauthorized individual accessed certain email accounts between October 31, 2024, and November 27, 2024. On June 17, 2025, the organization determined that files containing sensitive personal information may have been accessed.
The compromised data includes individuals’ names and Social Security numbers. While there is no evidence to date that the information has been misused, NCBCAE has taken action by notifying affected individuals and offering 12 months of complimentary credit monitoring and identity protection services through IDX.
