Moore & Van Allen PLLC (“MVA”) Data Breach – Investigated by Federman & Sherwood
Oklahoma City, Oklahoma (October 6, 2025) – The law firm of Federman & Sherwood is investigating a recent data breach involving Moore & Van Allen PLLC (“MVA”), a North Carolina-based law firm. According to a notice filed with the Attorney General of Maine, MVA discovered that an unauthorized actor accessed its computer network on August 15, 2025, for approximately twenty minutes and acquired copies of certain files containing sensitive personal information.
The investigation determined that the affected data included the names and Social Security numbers of at least four Maine residents. Upon discovering the incident, MVA took immediate steps to contain the breach, engaged external cybersecurity experts to assist in the investigation, and began notifying impacted individuals on October 3, 2025, in compliance with Maine law.
MVA has stated that it is offering affected individuals complimentary credit monitoring, fraud consultation, and identity theft restoration services through Experian, and has established a dedicated call center to assist those with questions. The firm also reported implementing additional safeguards to enhance the security of its computer network and help prevent similar incidents in the future.
