Metro-ILA Funds and MMMCA Data Breach – Investigated by Federman & Sherwood

May 26, 2026 – Federman & Sherwood, a national consumer protection law firm, is investigating the Metro-ILA Funds and MMMCA data breach, a cybersecurity incident involving unauthorized access to sensitive personal information that was reported to the Attorney General of Maine.

According to the notice, the Metro-ILA Pension Fund, Metro-ILA Fringe Benefit Fund, Metro-ILA Individual Account Retirement Fund, and the Metropolitan Marine Maintenance Contractors’ Association (“MMMCA”) identified unauthorized activity within their network environment on or about April 7, 2026. An investigation determined that an unknown threat actor gained access to the organizations’ systems through the use of virtual private networks (“VPNs”).

The organizations reported that the unauthorized actor may have accessed or compromised sensitive data stored within the Funds’ and MMMCA’s systems. The investigation remains ongoing.

The information potentially exposed includes Social Security numbers, dates of birth, phone numbers, and addresses.

Cybersecurity incidents involving employee benefit and retirement fund organizations are particularly concerning because they may expose highly sensitive personal and financial information that can be used for identity theft and fraud.

Federman & Sherwood is actively investigating whether the Metro-ILA Funds and MMMCA implemented adequate cybersecurity safeguards and whether this data security incident could have been prevented. The firm is also evaluating potential legal claims on behalf of individuals affected by the Metro-ILA Funds and MMMCA data breach.

The organizations reported that they enhanced security measures, reset passwords, strengthened endpoint detection systems, deployed multifactor authentication, and are offering affected individuals twelve (12) months of complimentary credit monitoring services through Experian.

Consumers who received a notice regarding the Metro-ILA Funds and MMMCA data breach or who believe their personal information may have been compromised are encouraged to monitor their financial accounts and credit reports for suspicious activity.
