MBE CPAs, LLP Data Breach – Investigated by Federman & Sherwood
Oklahoma City, Oklahoma (June 10, 2025) – Federman & Sherwood, a law firm specializing in consumer protection and data privacy litigation, is actively investigating a recently disclosed data breach involving MBE CPAs, LLP, an accounting firm headquartered in Baraboo, Wisconsin.
According to a notification filed with the Maine Attorney General’s Office on June 9, 2025, the breach was first detected by MBE on April 18, 2024, when the firm identified unusual activity within its computer systems. A third-party cybersecurity firm was promptly engaged to investigate and secure MBE’s network. Forensic analysis confirmed that an unauthorized actor accessed certain files containing sensitive information.
MBE CPAs has indicated that the data affected varies by individual. While only 12 Maine residents were confirmed to be impacted and notified via U.S. Mail on June 9, 2025, the total number of affected individuals nationwide may be higher.
In response to the breach, MBE CPAs is offering 12 months of free credit monitoring and identity theft restoration services through TransUnion to impacted individuals. The firm has also implemented several cybersecurity enhancements, including network monitoring tools, multifactor authentication, software patching, and stricter password policies.
Federman & Sherwood is examining whether MBE CPAs took adequate steps to safeguard the personal information it collected and whether affected individuals may be entitled to legal remedies.
