Marquis Software Solutions, Inc. Data Breach – Investigated by Federman & Sherwood
Oklahoma City, Oklahoma (December 3, 2025) – Federman & Sherwood, a national law firm focused on data breach and privacy litigation, is investigating a significant cybersecurity incident involving Marquis Software Solutions, Inc., following the company’s recent filing with the Attorney General of Maine.
According to the filing, Marquis—a digital and physical marketing and communications vendor serving numerous financial institutions—detected suspicious activity on its network on August 14, 2025. The company immediately launched an investigation and determined it had fallen victim to a ransomware attack, during which an unauthorized third party accessed Marquis’ network through its firewall and potentially acquired files from its systems.
A forensic investigation revealed that files containing personal information maintained on behalf of multiple business customers were among those accessed. In total, 42,784 Maine residents were affected—one of the largest Maine AG-reported breaches of 2025. The exposed data for Maine residents includes names, Social Security numbers, and other sensitive information. Marquis states it has no current evidence of misuse of the compromised information.
Between October 27, 2025, and November 25, 2025, Marquis began notifying impacted financial institutions and other business customers whose data was involved. Marquis is also assisting those organizations with required individual and regulatory notifications. The list of affected data owners includes numerous banks and credit unions—most notably Maine State Credit Union, with more than 38,000 affected Maine residents.
Notifications to affected consumers began on November 26, 2025, and include an offer of 12 to 24 months of complimentary Epiq Privacy Solutions ID identity monitoring services, which provide credit monitoring, dark web surveillance, identity theft restoration, and credit protection support.
Federman & Sherwood is investigating whether Marquis Software Solutions maintained adequate data security safeguards, whether the breach could have been prevented, and what legal rights may be available to the tens of thousands of individuals whose information was compromised.
The compromised information may have included:
- Full name
- Social Security number
- Date of birth
- Taxpayer identification number
- Address
- Phone number
- Financial account information
- Other sensitive information
