Lehighton Area School District Data Breach – Investigated by Federman & Sherwood
August 10, 2026 – Federman & Sherwood, a national consumer protection law firm, is investigating the Lehighton Area School District data breach following a privacy incident involving sensitive information belonging to current and former District employees.
According to the notice filed with the Nebraska Attorney General, the District discovered on May 13, 2026, that personal information concerning current and former employees had been posted on an independently operated website not affiliated with the District. The District states that it did not authorize the public posting and does not control or participate in the website.
According to the District, the disclosure originated from its compliance with a December 2024 court order requiring it to produce certain Right-to-Know Law records in unredacted form to a school board director. The District completed its review of potentially impacted individuals on June 10, 2026.
The information potentially exposed includes affected individuals’ first and last names in combination with Social Security numbers, medical information, and/or health insurance information. The District states that it has no evidence of attempted or actual misuse of the information. Affected individuals are being offered 12 months of complimentary Experian IdentityWorks, including credit monitoring, identity restoration assistance, and up to $1 million in identity theft insurance.
