Legacy CPA Data Breach – Investigated by Federman & Sherwood

Oklahoma City, Oklahoma (July 22, 2025) – The law firm of Federman & Sherwood announces it has initiated an investigation into a significant data breach involving Legacy CPA, a tax and accounting firm, following a notification filed with the Attorney General of Maine.

According to the notification and correspondence dated June 18, 2025, Legacy CPA discovered that an unauthorized third party gained access to its systems between February 5, 2025 and March 20, 2025. The breach reportedly involved the compromise of sensitive information tied to clients’ tax return preparation files. Upon discovery on March 25, 2025, Legacy CPA launched an investigation with third-party cybersecurity experts and completed a full review on May 19, 2025.

The potentially compromised information includes names, Social Security numbers, and other data typically found in tax documentation.

In response to the breach, Legacy CPA has offered affected individuals 24 months of identity theft protection and credit monitoring services through IDX, which includes CyberScan monitoring, $1 million in insurance reimbursement, and access to fully managed identity recovery services.

Federman & Sherwood is investigating the incident to determine whether proper safeguards were in place to protect such sensitive financial and personal information and whether the response and notification timelines adhered to legal standards.

The exposed information potentially included:

  • Name
  • Social Security number
  • Individual taxpayer identification number
  • Date of birth
  • Financial account information
  • Other sensitive information
