Lawyers’ Mutual Insurance Company of California Data Breach – Investigated by Federman & Sherwood
Oklahoma City, Oklahoma (November 18, 2025) – The law firm of Federman & Sherwood announces that it is investigating a data breach involving Lawyers’ Mutual Insurance Company of California, following the company’s filing of a data breach notification with the Attorney General of Maine.
According to the notification, Lawyers’ Mutual learned on October 9, 2025, that certain personal information may have been removed from its computer network during a cyber event that occurred on May 20, 2025. The company immediately retained third-party forensic investigators to determine the nature and scope of the incident. As part of the investigation, the company also conducted an extensive review of the files involved to identify affected individuals and confirm address information. This process was completed on or around October 31, 2025.
The information that may have been accessed includes an individual’s name and Social Security number.
Lawyers’ Mutual began mailing written notifications to impacted individuals, including one Maine resident, on November 14, 2025. The company has reported the incident to federal law enforcement and is implementing additional administrative and technical safeguards to further strengthen the security of its systems.
To support impacted individuals, Lawyers’ Mutual is offering 12 months of complimentary credit monitoring and identity theft protection services through IDX, including credit monitoring, identity restoration services, and identity theft insurance coverage.
Federman & Sherwood is investigating whether Lawyers’ Mutual Insurance Company of California took appropriate measures to safeguard the personal information in its possession, and whether affected individuals may be entitled to compensation, extended credit monitoring, or other legal remedies.
