Lafayette Federal Credit Union (“LFCU”) Data Breach – Investigated by Federman & Sherwood
Oklahoma City, Oklahoma (July 15, 2025) – Federman & Sherwood, a nationwide law firm specializing in data breach and consumer protection litigation, has initiated an investigation into a data security incident involving Lafayette Federal Credit Union (“LFCU”). The breach was reported in a filing with the California Attorney General’s Office.
According to the notice, LFCU discovered that an unauthorized third party gained access to an employee’s email account for a brief period on September 16, 2024. After securing the account and launching an internal and forensic investigation, LFCU determined that sensitive personal information may have been exposed. The review, completed on February 5, 2025, confirmed that the compromised email account contained personal data, including individuals’ names in combination with additional confidential elements such as Social Security numbers, financial account data, or health-related information.
Although the credit union has no indication that the exposed information has been misused, it is offering affected individuals a complimentary one-year membership of Experian IdentityWorksSM Credit 3B, a credit monitoring and identity theft protection service.
Federman & Sherwood is currently evaluating the scope of the breach and potential legal claims that may arise from it. The firm is committed to protecting consumers whose data has been compromised as a result of inadequate cybersecurity practices.
The type of information potentially exposed includes:
