Lafayette Federal Credit Union (“LFCU”) Data Breach – Investigated by Federman & Sherwood

Oklahoma City, Oklahoma (July 31, 2025) – The law firm of Federman & Sherwood announces that it is continuing its investigation into the data breach involving Lafayette Federal Credit Union (“LFCU”), following the filing of a supplemental notice with the Office of the Attorney General of Maine.

According to the updated filing, the breach occurred on September 16, 2024, and was not discovered until February 5, 2025. The breach was the result of a hacking incident involving LFCU’s external system, and exposed sensitive personal information, including names and other identifiers in combination with additional personal data.

Originally disclosed in March 2025, LFCU has now submitted a supplemental notice with more specific information regarding the scope of the breach. It is now confirmed that 77,337 individuals were affected, including 124 Maine residents. Written notifications to affected individuals were issued beginning March 20, 2025.

As part of its response, LFCU has offered impacted individuals 12 months of credit monitoring and identity theft protection through Experian Credit3B IdentityWorks.

Federman & Sherwood has been investigating this breach since the initial disclosure and is evaluating whether Lafayette Federal Credit Union employed reasonable data security measures to protect consumer information. The firm continues to pursue answers on behalf of affected individuals, including whether LFCU provided timely and adequate notification and protection following the breach.
