Khan & Associates CPA, Inc. Data Breach – Investigated by Federman & Sherwood
Oklahoma City, Oklahoma (October 21, 2025) – The law firm of Federman & Sherwood announces that it is investigating a data breach involving Khan & Associates CPA, Inc., located in Newport Beach, California. According to a notice filed with the Maine Attorney General’s Office, the accounting firm reported that an unauthorized party gained access to its third-party tax filing software, Intuit, and used it to file fraudulent federal and state tax returns.
Khan & Associates discovered the breach on July 16, 2025, and determined that the unauthorized access occurred between July 9 and July 16, 2025. The firm reported that the incident may have involved clients’ Social Security numbers, government identification numbers, names, bank account details, and other sensitive tax-related information.
Upon discovering the breach, Khan & Associates secured its systems, notified the IRS, the FBI, and the U.S. Secret Service, and implemented additional security measures such as multi-factor authentication, password resets, and enhanced firewall protections. The firm has also offered 12 months of complimentary credit monitoring and identity protection services through Kroll, a global leader in risk mitigation and identity theft restoration.
