Institute for Human Resources and Services Inc. (IHRS) Data Breach – Investigated by Federman & Sherwood

February 12, 2026 – Federman & Sherwood is investigating a data breach involving Institute for Human Resources and Services Inc. (“IHRS”), following a notification filed with the Maine Attorney General.

According to the filing, IHRS was alerted to suspicious activity in its systems on or about August 14, 2025. An investigation determined that between August 13 and August 14, 2025, an unknown actor gained access to certain systems, and information stored within those systems may have been accessed or taken without authorization. IHRS reported that it received the initial results of its data review on December 10, 2025, after which it conducted additional address enrichment efforts in preparation for notification.

The information potentially involved includes names, Social Security numbers, and driver’s license numbers. IHRS reported that three Maine residents were affected. Written notice was provided to impacted individuals on or about February 11, 2026.

IHRS stated that it moved quickly to investigate and respond to the incident, notified federal law enforcement, and is implementing additional safeguards and employee training. The organization is offering affected individuals 12 months of complimentary credit monitoring and identity protection services through Kroll at no cost. IHRS also provided guidance regarding fraud alerts, credit freezes, and monitoring credit reports.

Federman & Sherwood is investigating whether IHRS implemented reasonable cybersecurity safeguards, whether the incident could have been prevented, and whether individuals impacted by the breach may have legal claims.

The potentially compromised information may include:

  • Name
  • Social Security number
  • Driver’s license number
  • Other sensitive information
