Inotiv, Inc. Data Breach – Investigated by Federman & Sherwood

Oklahoma City, Oklahoma (December 3, 2025) – Federman & Sherwood, a national law firm focused on data breach and consumer privacy matters, is investigating a cybersecurity incident involving Inotiv, Inc., following the company’s recent filing with the Attorney General of Maine.

According to the filing, Inotiv discovered unusual activity within its systems on August 5, 2025, and promptly initiated an internal investigation. Forensic analysis later confirmed that a threat actor gained unauthorized access to Inotiv systems between August 5 and August 8, 2025, during which certain data files were accessed and potentially acquired. On November 21, 2025, Inotiv determined that personal information belonging to affected individuals—including current and former employees, family members, and individuals connected to companies Inotiv has acquired—was involved.

The company’s consumer notification letter explains that the compromised data may include names in combination with additional personal identifiers, depending on the individual. While Inotiv reports that it has no indication of misuse at this time, the company is notifying impacted individuals out of an abundance of caution.

In total, 9,542 individuals were affected by this incident, including five Maine residents. Written notifications were issued on December 2, 2025.

Inotiv states that as soon as suspicious activity was detected, the company took immediate steps to contain the incident, secure its network, and begin a comprehensive review with the assistance of external cybersecurity specialists. The company also notified law enforcement.

To support affected individuals, Inotiv is offering 24 months of complimentary Experian IdentityWorks credit monitoring and identity theft protection services, including credit monitoring, identity restoration support, and identity theft insurance.

Federman & Sherwood is investigating whether Inotiv, Inc. implemented appropriate cybersecurity safeguards prior to the incident, whether the breach could have been prevented, and what legal rights may be available to affected Maine residents and others nationwide.

The compromised information may have included:

  • Full name
  • Social Security number
  • Other sensitive information
