Idealab Data Breach – Investigated by Federman & Sherwood
Oklahoma City, Oklahoma (July 3, 2025) – The law firm of Federman & Sherwood has initiated an investigation into a data breach involving Idealab, a Pasadena-based technology incubator, following its disclosure to the Attorney General of Maine. The incident, which potentially exposed sensitive personal information, affects individuals who may be current or former employees, contractors, or dependents of those affiliated with entities receiving services from Idealab.
According to the notification filed, Idealab detected suspicious activity in its network around October 7, 2024. An internal investigation confirmed that an unauthorized third party had acquired data from Idealab’s systems without permission, with the unauthorized access believed to have occurred on or about October 4, 2024. Following a comprehensive review of the affected data, Idealab confirmed on June 26, 2025, that personal information had been compromised and began issuing individual notifications to impacted persons.
The exposed data may include individuals’ names in combination with other sensitive personal information, such as Social Security numbers, dates of birth, financial account information, or medical details, depending on the person affected.
Idealab has engaged IDX, a leader in identity protection services, to offer 24 months of free credit monitoring, dark web monitoring, identity theft recovery assistance, and a $1 million identity fraud insurance policy to affected individuals. The deadline to enroll in these services is October 1, 2025.
Federman & Sherwood is actively investigating the scope of the breach, Idealab’s cybersecurity practices, and whether sufficient measures were in place to protect consumer data.
The type of information potentially exposed includes:
- Name
- Social Security number
- Other sensitive information
