Horizon Media Data Breach – Investigated by Federman & Sherwood
May 7, 2026 – Federman & Sherwood, a national consumer protection law firm, is investigating the Horizon Media data breach, a cybersecurity incident involving unauthorized access to sensitive personal information that was reported to the Attorney General of Maine.
According to the notice, Horizon Media learned on or about January 9, 2026, that an unauthorized actor gained access to a limited portion of the company’s systems through what was described as a sophisticated social engineering event. The investigation determined that the unauthorized actor accessed certain file shares on January 9, 2026, and copied files from Horizon’s systems.
Following the incident, Horizon conducted a detailed review of the affected files to determine what information may have been involved and which individuals were impacted. The review was completed on or about April 6, 2026.
The information potentially exposed includes individuals’ names and Social Security numbers.
Cybersecurity incidents involving social engineering attacks present serious risks because they may allow threat actors to bypass security controls and obtain highly sensitive personal information that can be used for identity theft and financial fraud.
Federman & Sherwood is actively investigating whether Horizon Media implemented adequate cybersecurity protections and employee security training measures and whether this data security incident could have been prevented. Horizon reported that it notified federal law enforcement, enhanced its cybersecurity measures, and is offering affected individuals twenty-four (24) months of complimentary credit monitoring and identity protection services through Experian.
