HomeTrust Mortgage Company Data Breach – Investigated by Federman & Sherwood
Oklahoma City, Oklahoma (June 17, 2025) – The law firm of Federman & Sherwood announces that it is investigating a data breach involving HomeTrust Mortgage Company, a Houston-based lender, which recently disclosed a cybersecurity incident that exposed the personal information of customers.
According to a notice submitted to the Maine Attorney General’s Office and impacted individuals, HomeTrust Mortgage experienced a network disruption on or around October 28, 2024. An internal investigation, assisted by independent cybersecurity experts, determined on November 18, 2024, that certain files had been accessed and acquired without authorization. A thorough review completed on April 14, 2025, revealed that affected files may have contained customers’ names and Social Security numbers.
Although the company states it has not found evidence of misuse of the compromised information, HomeTrust Mortgage is offering 12 months of complimentary credit monitoring and identity protection services through IDX to those affected. Notification letters were sent to individuals beginning June 16, 2025.
Federman & Sherwood is investigating whether HomeTrust Mortgage took adequate steps to protect customer data and is evaluating potential legal claims on behalf of those whose sensitive information may have been exposed.
The compromised information may have included:
- Name
- Social Security numbers
- Other sensitive information
