FinWise Bank and its technology partner American First Finance (AFF) Data Breach – Investigated by Federman & Sherwood
Oklahoma City, Oklahoma (September 16, 2025) – The law firm of Federman & Sherwood announces it is investigating the recent data breach involving FinWise Bank, headquartered in Murray, Utah, and its technology partner American First Finance (AFF).
According to the notice filed with the Maine Attorney General’s Office, the incident occurred on May 31, 2024, when a former employee improperly accessed FinWise Bank data after their employment had ended. Some of the data accessed included consumer information associated with AFF, which partners with FinWise to originate installment loans, lease-to-own accounts, and retail installment sales agreements.
The personal information that may have been accessed includes names, Social Security numbers, and other sensitive identifiers. FinWise has offered 12 months of complimentary credit monitoring and identity theft protection services to affected individuals, along with guidance on placing fraud alerts, initiating credit freezes, and obtaining free credit reports.
