Oklahoma City, OK (May 21, 2020) – Federman & Sherwood, a boutique litigation law firm that has been appointed counsel in several data breach cases, is investigating the data breach at PaperlessPay Corporation (“PaperlessPay”). PaperlessPay is a third-party payroll vendor that generates paystubs and W-2s for employers across the United States. In February 2020, federal law enforcement discovered that criminals were selling the data of PaperlessPay’s clients, data that would contain the personally identifiable information of potentially millions of employees. Personal information that was compromised included names, addresses, pay and withholdings Social Security numbers, and possibly bank account numbers. PaperlessPay and its clients began notifying potentially affected individuals in April 2020. The personal information compromised in this data breach exposes breach victims to identity theft and other forms of fraud.
Employees of potentially all entities that used PaperlessPay for payroll processing were affected, including the following entities who have publicly acknowledged that their employees are among those affected:
- Marshall Medical Center, El Dorado, CA
- Community Memorial Health System, Ventura County, CA
- Orlando Utilities Commission, Orlando, FL
- City of Fort Lauderdale, Fort Lauderdale, FL
- Fareway Stores, Boone, IA
- Lee Auto Malls, Auburn, ME
- MP Environmental Services, Inc., Bakersfield, CA
- Spencer Municipal Hospital, Spencer, IA
