Oklahoma City, OK (December 13, 2024) – The law firm of Federman & Sherwood has initiated an investigation into Duke Energy with respect to their recent data breach. Duke Energy is alerting customers to a May 2024 data breach in which a third party may have stolen customer information from its public website. The company believes the bad actors could have utilized externally obtained personal information to gain access to additional details about customer accounts. While passwords for both residential and business accounts were not compromised, other sensitive information may have been exposed in the Duke Energy data breach. This includes utility account numbers, names, email addresses, mailing addresses, dates of birth, phone numbers, and the last four digits of Social Security numbers for residential customers, as well as the last four digits of federal tax IDs for businesses.
