Oklahoma City, OK (January 31, 2020) – Federman & Sherwood, a boutique litigation law firm that has been appointed counsel in numerous data breach and shareholder cases, has initiated an investigation into a recently confirmed data breach at Laboratory Corporation of America Holdings, Inc. (“LabCorp”).  On January 28, 2020, cybersecurity researchers reported a major security lapse at LabCorp affecting webpages on its internal customer relationship management system. The Data Breach exposed, in unencrypted plain text, the personal and medical information, including Social Security Numbers, test results, and other sensitive personal and medical information of potentially thousands of patients. The information was readily accessible from Google and other search engines. LabCorp confirmed the incident and will be notifying individuals and relevant regulatory authorities. The incident affected many patients, including cancer patients who used LabCorp’s specialty Oncology testing unit.
