Fairmont Federal Credit Union Data Breach – Investigated by Federman & Sherwood
Oklahoma City, Oklahoma (September 12, 2025) – The law firm of Federman & Sherwood announces that it is investigating the recent data breach involving Fairmont Federal Credit Union, based in Fairmont, West Virginia.
According to a notice filed with the Attorney General of Maine, Fairmont Federal Credit Union experienced a hacking-related system breach between September 30, 2023, and October 18, 2023. The breach was discovered on January 23, 2024, and after an extensive forensic investigation, the institution concluded on or about August 17, 2025, that files accessed by an unauthorized party contained sensitive personal information.
The compromised data includes names and Social Security numbers of affected individuals. In total, approximately 187,038 individuals were impacted nationwide, including 53 Maine residents. Written notices were issued to affected individuals beginning September 11, 2025.
Fairmont Federal Credit Union is offering impacted individuals complimentary identity theft protection and credit monitoring services through Experian for 12–24 months at no cost.
