Delta Dental of Virginia (“DDVA”) Data Breach – Investigated by Federman & Sherwood
Oklahoma City, Oklahoma (November 24, 2025) – Federman & Sherwood is investigating a data security incident involving Delta Dental of Virginia (“DDVA”) following the company’s notification to the Attorney General of Maine.
According to the filing, DDVA discovered suspicious activity involving an employee email account on or around April 23, 2025. The company launched an investigation with independent cybersecurity experts and determined that emails and attachments within the compromised account may have been accessed and acquired without authorization between March 21, 2025, and April 23, 2025.
DDVA’s review of the affected data revealed that sensitive personal information—including names, Social Security numbers, state or federal government ID numbers, and certain protected health information—was contained within the accessed emails. The company reported that it has no evidence of misuse at this time but proceeded with regulatory notifications and consumer outreach as required.
On November 21, 2025, DDVA issued written notifications to approximately 222 Maine residents and provided a sample consumer notice to the Attorney General’s office. The company states that it has implemented additional safeguards and employee training and is offering impacted individuals 12 months of complimentary credit monitoring and identity protection services through TransUnion.
Federman & Sherwood is investigating whether DDVA had adequate email security, monitoring, and data protection controls in place to prevent unauthorized access and whether affected Maine residents may have legal rights or remedies under state and federal law.
The compromised information may have included:
• Full name
• Social Security number
• Health information
• Other sensitive information
