Dartmouth College Data Breach – Investigated by Federman & Sherwood

Oklahoma City, Oklahoma (November 25, 2025) – Federman & Sherwood is investigating a cybersecurity incident involving Dartmouth College following its recent filing with the Attorney General of Maine.

According to the filing, Dartmouth College experienced a data security incident involving its Oracle eBusiness Suite (EBS) software—an event tied to a widely reported “zero-day” vulnerability affecting Oracle EBS customers worldwide. Dartmouth determined that an unauthorized actor accessed and removed certain files between August 9, 2025, and August 12, 2025.

During its forensic review, completed on October 30, 2025, Dartmouth identified that the accessed files contained the names, Social Security numbers, and/or financial account information of 1,494 Maine residents. Dartmouth began mailing written notifications to affected individuals on November 24, 2025.

Dartmouth reports that it promptly secured its environment, alerted law enforcement, and launched a full investigation immediately after discovering the incident. The college has implemented all publicly available Oracle EBS patches and states that it will continue evaluating vendors’ security practices to help prevent similar events in the future.

To assist affected individuals, Dartmouth is offering one year of complimentary Experian IdentityWorks credit monitoring and identity theft protection services, including credit monitoring across major bureaus, dark web surveillance, identity restoration support, and identity theft insurance.

Federman & Sherwood is investigating whether Dartmouth College maintained adequate safeguards for the personal information it stored, whether this breach could have been prevented, and what legal rights may be available to impacted individuals.

The compromised information may have included:

  • Full name
  • Social Security number
  • Financial account information
  • Other sensitive information

What is Dartmouth College?
