Covenant Health Data Breach – Investigated by Federman & Sherwood

Oklahoma City, Oklahoma (July 14, 2025) – Federman & Sherwood, a nationally recognized law firm specializing in privacy and data breach litigation, is investigating a data breach involving Covenant Health, a healthcare system based in Portland, Maine. The incident was reported to the Maine Attorney General and impacts the sensitive personal information of approximately 7,864 individuals.

According to the breach disclosure, Covenant Health detected unusual activity in its IT systems on May 26, 2025. A thorough investigation revealed that an unauthorized party gained access to its IT environment on May 18, 2025, and accessed patient data. The compromised information may include names, addresses, dates of birth, Social Security numbers, medical record numbers, treatment details, and health insurance information.

Covenant Health began notifying affected individuals by mail on July 11, 2025, and is offering complimentary one-year memberships to Experian® IdentityWorksSM, which provides credit monitoring, identity theft protection, and resolution services. The organization has also reported the breach to federal law enforcement and taken steps to strengthen the security of its systems.

Federman & Sherwood is investigating whether Covenant Health took appropriate steps to safeguard patient information and whether affected individuals may be entitled to compensation under state and federal law, including the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA).
