CoVantage Credit Union Data Breach – Investigated by Federman & Sherwood

Oklahoma City, Oklahoma (December 1, 2025) – Federman & Sherwood, a national law firm that practices data breach and consumer protection litigation, is investigating a data security incident involving CoVantage Credit Union, following the organization’s recent filing with the Attorney General of Maine.

According to the filing, CoVantage Credit Union was impacted by a cybersecurity incident that occurred on August 14, 2025, when an unauthorized third party gained access to the systems of Marquis Software Solutions, a digital and physical marketing vendor used by financial institutions, including CoVantage. While CoVantage’s internal systems were not compromised, files stored in Marquis’ environment were accessed and copied during the attack.

On October 27, 2025, Marquis confirmed that the compromised files contained personal information belonging to individuals associated with CoVantage. In total, 160,000 individuals were affected nationwide, including 21 Maine residents. Impacted data includes names in combination with one or more sensitive data elements, which may include addresses, account information, identification numbers, or other personal identifiers.

Written notifications to affected Maine residents were issued on November 26, 2025. To support those affected, CoVantage—through Marquis—is offering 24 months of complimentary Epiq Privacy Solutions ID services, which provide three-bureau credit monitoring, dark web surveillance, identity restoration assistance, and up to $1 million in identity theft insurance.

Marquis reports that it promptly engaged cybersecurity experts, notified law enforcement, and has implemented additional security and monitoring measures to help prevent similar incidents in the future.

Federman & Sherwood is investigating whether CoVantage Credit Union and its third-party vendor, Marquis Software Solutions, implemented reasonable data security measures, whether the breach could have been prevented, and what legal remedies may be available to affected Maine residents and other consumers across the country.

The compromised information may have included:

  • Full name
  • Social Security number
  • Financial information
  • Other sensitive information
