Conterra Ultra Broadband Holdings, Inc. dba Conterra Networks Data Breach – Investigated by Federman & Sherwood
Oklahoma City, Oklahoma (July 21, 2025) – Federman & Sherwood, a law firm specializing in data breach and privacy litigation, has initiated an investigation into a data breach involving Conterra Networks, a Charlotte, North Carolina-based telecommunications company. The breach was reported to the Office of the Attorney General of Maine on July 2025.
According to the notification, Conterra identified suspicious activity within its network on March 8, 2025, and promptly launched an internal investigation. It was later determined that between March 2 and March 12, 2025, an unauthorized actor infiltrated Conterra’s systems and deployed ransomware, resulting in the encryption of servers and potential theft of sensitive data. A subsequent forensic review confirmed that personal information—including names and additional data elements such as Social Security numbers, dates of birth, and potentially other sensitive information—was present in the compromised files.
Conterra reports that it has found no evidence, as of this writing, that any of the data has been misused or published on the dark web. Nevertheless, impacted individuals have been offered complimentary identity protection services, including credit monitoring, dark web monitoring, and $1 million in identity theft insurance coverage, through Identity Defense.
Federman & Sherwood is currently investigating the incident to determine whether Conterra had adequate cybersecurity measures in place to safeguard consumer information and whether the response and notification to affected individuals complied with applicable laws.
