Comyns, Smith, McCleary & Deaver LLP (“CSMD”) Data Breach – Investigated by Federman & Sherwood
Oklahoma City, Oklahoma (June 16, 2025) – The law firm of Federman & Sherwood announces it is investigating a recent data breach involving Comyns, Smith, McCleary & Deaver LLP (“CSMD”). On June 6, 2025, CSMD began notifying individuals that their personal information may have been compromised in a cyberattack targeting the firm’s email systems.
According to CSMD, the firm detected suspicious activity on November 14, 2024, and a forensic investigation later confirmed that an unauthorized actor had gained access to a single email account. The compromised account contained sensitive personal information, which may include names and other personal identifiers. While CSMD has not found evidence of misuse, it acknowledged that the affected information varied by individual and could include highly sensitive data.
CSMD has taken steps to secure its systems, reset credentials, and implement enhanced cybersecurity protocols. Affected individuals are being offered complimentary credit monitoring and fraud resolution services through HaystackID.
Federman & Sherwood is currently investigating the breach to determine the extent of the exposure, whether adequate data protection practices were followed, and if affected individuals may be entitled to legal recourse.
The compromised information may have included:
- Name
- Social Security numbers
- Other sensitive information
