Christian Brothers Academy (“CBA”) Data Breach – Investigated by Federman & Sherwood
Oklahoma City, Oklahoma (August 19, 2025) – The law firm of Federman & Sherwood announces that it is investigating a data breach involving Christian Brothers Academy (“CBA”), a private educational institution.
According to a notice filed with the Maine Attorney General, on June 4, 2025, CBA learned that unauthorized criminal actors had gained access to portions of its computer systems in a cyberattack. Working with a forensic cybersecurity firm, CBA determined that the intrusion may have been initiated through a phishing attack and escalated into a ransomware event. While the school successfully secured its systems without paying any ransom, investigators confirmed that certain files may have been accessed by the attackers.
The potentially impacted files contained sensitive personal information, which may include names, addresses, financial account details, driver’s license numbers, and/or passport information. At this time, CBA has not confirmed which individuals’ data was specifically accessed.
Following the incident, CBA implemented additional cybersecurity measures, including expanded multi-factor authentication, network segmentation, updated security policies, and enhanced monitoring tools. The school has also required password resets across its systems.
As part of its response, CBA is providing impacted individuals with two years of complimentary identity monitoring and credit protection services through Epiq Privacy Solutions ID. The services include 3-bureau credit monitoring, dark web monitoring, fraud alerts, identity theft restoration assistance, and up to $1,000,000 of identity theft insurance coverage.
