Carter Credit Union Data Breach – Investigated by Federman & Sherwood

Oklahoma City, Oklahoma (September 3, 2025) – The law firm of Federman & Sherwood announces an investigation into a data breach involving Carter Credit Union, headquartered in Springhill, Louisiana.

According to a notice filed with the Maine Attorney General, Carter Credit Union learned on July 2, 2025, that an unauthorized third party had temporarily gained access to its computer network. The forensic investigation determined that the unauthorized party accessed certain files between June 25, 2025, and July 2, 2025.

While Carter Credit Union reports that there is no evidence of fraud or identity theft related to the incident, notification letters have been mailed to affected individuals. Impacted persons have been offered a complimentary one-year membership in Experian IdentityWorks Credit 3B, which provides credit monitoring, identity theft insurance, and identity restoration services.

In addition to offering these protections, Carter reports that it has taken steps to contain the incident, engaged a forensic cybersecurity firm, enhanced technical safeguards, and notified law enforcement.
