Black Hills Regional Eye Institute LLP (“BHREI”) Data Breach – Investigated by Federman & Sherwood

Oklahoma City, Oklahoma (August 29, 2025) – The law firm of Federman & Sherwood announces that it is investigating a data breach involving Black Hills Regional Eye Institute LLP (“BHREI”), a healthcare provider.

According to a notice filed with the Attorney General of Maine, BHREI detected suspicious activity in its network on January 8, 2025, which disrupted day-to-day operations. An investigation later determined that an unauthorized party gained access to BHREI’s systems and potentially acquired sensitive information. On or about July 30, 2025, it was confirmed that certain Protected Health Information (PHI) maintained by BHREI was potentially accessed and acquired by an unauthorized party.

The information at risk may include patients’ personal and medical information. While there is currently no evidence that the information has been misused, BHREI has begun notifying affected individuals and is offering 12 months of complimentary Experian IdentityWorks credit monitoring and identity protection services. BHREI has also reported the incident to law enforcement and is working with cybersecurity professionals to strengthen its systems.
