Birdsong Peanuts Data Breach – Investigated by Federman & Sherwood
Oklahoma City, Oklahoma (July 22, 2025) – The law firm of Federman & Sherwood announces it is investigating a recently disclosed data breach involving Birdsong Peanuts, a leading supplier in the peanut industry, after a security event compromised personal information stored on the company’s network.
According to a notice filed with the Attorney General of Maine, Birdsong identified unauthorized access to its computer systems on June 23, 2025, and immediately launched an investigation with the assistance of third-party cybersecurity experts. The investigation concluded that an unknown actor had viewed and/or copied sensitive information from Birdsong’s network on or before that date. A comprehensive internal review completed on July 9, 2025, confirmed that certain individuals’ personal data was potentially affected.
The information potentially exposed includes individual names and other personally identifiable data, the full extent of which varies by individual. As a precautionary measure, Birdsong began notifying affected individuals via written communication on July 18, 2025.
To assist impacted individuals, Birdsong is offering 12 months of free credit monitoring and identity protection services through Cyberscout, a TransUnion company. These services include credit monitoring, identity theft insurance up to $1 million, and access to fraud remediation experts.
Federman & Sherwood is investigating the incident to determine whether Birdsong had reasonable cybersecurity protections in place and if affected individuals are entitled to compensation or other legal remedies. The firm is particularly concerned about the timeliness of the breach discovery and notification, and the adequacy of the company’s efforts to protect sensitive personal information.
