Altos Inc. Data Breach – Investigated by Federman & Sherwood
Oklahoma City, Oklahoma (August 4, 2025) – The law firm of Federman & Sherwood has initiated an investigation into a data breach involving Altos, a billing services provider for numerous healthcare organizations across Southern California.
According to a data breach notification filed with the California Attorney General, Altos discovered on June 17, 2025, that one of its internal systems containing personal and health information had been exposed to the Internet. After hiring a cybersecurity firm and conducting a comprehensive investigation, Altos confirmed on July 21, 2025, that an unauthorized party had accessed the system and may have removed sensitive data.
The exposed information potentially includes individuals’ names, addresses, dates of birth, Social Security numbers, and protected health information (PHI). While Altos stated that they are unaware of any misuse of the information at this time, the breach could present a significant risk to those affected.
In response to the incident, Altos has secured the compromised system, enhanced its cybersecurity posture, and is offering affected individuals credit monitoring services through Epiq Privacy Solutions ID at no cost. This includes identity restoration support, dark web monitoring, SSN alerts, and up to $1 million in identity theft insurance.
Federman & Sherwood is actively investigating whether Altos took adequate steps to secure personal and health information prior to the breach and is evaluating legal options for those impacted.
The type of information potentially exposed includes:
