Ampex Data Systems Corporation Data Breach – Investigated by Federman & Sherwood

May 29, 2026 – Federman & Sherwood, a national consumer protection law firm, is investigating the Ampex Data Systems data breach, a cybersecurity incident involving unauthorized access to sensitive personal information that was disclosed in a notice filed with the California Attorney General.

According to the notice, Ampex Data Systems Corporation learned on or about March 21, 2026, that a threat actor group had gained access to and encrypted portions of the network at one of its office locations. The company immediately shut down affected servers, engaged forensic specialists and cybersecurity counsel, and launched an investigation into the incident.

The forensic investigation confirmed that unauthorized access occurred on March 21, 2026, and that the incident was contained by March 23, 2026. Ampex later determined that the full scope of potentially affected information was not known until April 15, 2026.

The information potentially exposed includes names, addresses, Social Security numbers, dates of birth, and, in limited instances, driver’s license information and banking information belonging to current and former employees, contractors, and their dependents.

Cybersecurity incidents involving defense and technology contractors are particularly concerning because they may expose highly sensitive personal information that can be used for identity theft, financial fraud, and other forms of misuse.

Federman & Sherwood is actively investigating whether Ampex Data Systems Corporation implemented reasonable cybersecurity safeguards and whether this data security incident could have been prevented. The firm is also evaluating potential legal claims on behalf of individuals affected by the Ampex Data Systems data breach.

Ampex reported that it notified the FBI Internet Crime Complaint Center (IC3) and the Department of Defense Cyber Crime Center (DC3), engaged forensic and cybersecurity experts, enhanced its security measures, and is offering affected individuals twelve (12) months of complimentary credit monitoring and fraud assistance services through Cyberscout, a TransUnion company.

Consumers who received a notice regarding the Ampex Data Systems data breach or who believe their personal information may have been compromised are encouraged to monitor their financial accounts, credit reports, and other personal records for suspicious activity.

The potentially compromised information may include:

  • Names
  • Social Security numbers
  • Dates of birth
  • Addresses
  • Financial information
  • Other sensitive information
