Berger & Williams, LLP Data Breach – Investigated by Federman & Sherwood

May 8, 2026 – Federman & Sherwood, a national consumer protection law firm, is investigating the Berger & Williams data breach, a cybersecurity incident involving unauthorized access to sensitive personal information that was reported to the Attorney General of Maine.

According to the notice, Berger & Williams, LLP discovered unauthorized access involving an employee email account. The law firm launched a technical investigation with the assistance of outside cybersecurity professionals to determine the scope of the incident and whether sensitive information had been accessed or acquired.

Following a comprehensive investigation and manual document review, Berger & Williams learned on or about April 6, 2026, that the impacted email account, which was accessed on or about February 6, 2025, contained a limited amount of personal information that may have been accessed or acquired by an unauthorized party.

The information potentially exposed includes sensitive personal information contained within the affected email account.

Cybersecurity incidents involving compromised email accounts are particularly concerning because they may expose confidential personal, financial, medical, or legal information to unauthorized individuals.

Federman & Sherwood is actively investigating whether Berger & Williams, LLP implemented reasonable cybersecurity safeguards, including email security protections and employee training measures, and whether this data security incident could have been prevented. The firm is also evaluating potential legal claims on behalf of individuals affected by the Berger & Williams data breach.

Berger & Williams reported that it implemented additional security measures following the incident and is offering affected individuals complimentary credit monitoring and fraud assistance services through Cyberscout, a TransUnion company.
