North Atlantic States Carpenters Benefit Funds Data Breach – Investigated by Federman & Sherwood

February 12, 2026 – Federman & Sherwood is investigating a data breach involving the North Atlantic States Carpenters Benefit Funds, following a notification filed with the Maine Attorney General.

According to the regulatory filing, on or about August 18, 2025, the organization detected suspicious activity within the network of its Hamden, Connecticut office. An investigation determined that an unauthorized actor accessed and/or acquired certain files on that date. A comprehensive review of the affected files was completed on January 13, 2026.

The information potentially involved includes individuals’ names in combination with Social Security numbers and financial account information. The organization reported that no funds were taken and that participant benefits and account balances remain intact.

On or about February 11, 2026, written notice was provided to approximately 2,063 Maine residents. The organization is offering 12 months of complimentary credit monitoring and identity protection services through Epiq.

Federman & Sherwood is investigating whether adequate cybersecurity safeguards were in place, whether the breach could have been prevented, and whether affected individuals may have legal claims.
