February 10, 2026 – Federman & Sherwood is investigating a data breach involving The Counseling Center of Wayne and Holmes Counties, following a notification filed with the Maine Attorney General.
According to the notification, the Counseling Center identified suspicious activity after its third-party service provider experienced a disruption that impacted certain systems. A forensic investigation determined that an unauthorized individual likely accessed one of the Counseling Center’s servers on March 2, 2025, and obtained information from the system on March 3, 2025. The organization reported that it promptly contained the incident and worked with cybersecurity professionals to assess the scope of the exposure.
The information potentially involved includes names and other personal identifiers, depending on the individual affected. The Counseling Center reported that it completed its review of the impacted data on December 9, 2025, and began notifying affected individuals thereafter. At this time, the organization has stated that it is not aware of misuse of the information.
Federman & Sherwood is investigating whether The Counseling Center of Wayne and Holmes Counties implemented reasonable cybersecurity safeguards, whether the incident could have been prevented, and whether affected individuals may have legal claims.
