The Computer Merchant, Ltd. Data Breach – Investigated by Federman & Sherwood
Oklahoma City, Oklahoma (August 22, 2025) – The law firm of Federman & Sherwood announces that it is investigating a data breach involving The Computer Merchant, Ltd., which recently filed a notice of data breach with the Attorney General of Maine.
According to the company’s notice, The Computer Merchant experienced a cyberattack in July 2024 against its computer network. While the company initially believed no personal information had been accessed, in January 2025 it became aware that data from the incident had been made publicly available. A subsequent review determined that files containing personal information, including names and Social Security numbers, were exposed.
The Computer Merchant has offered affected individuals identity theft protection services through IDX, including credit and CyberScan monitoring, a $1,000,000 insurance reimbursement policy, and fully managed identity theft recovery services. Impacted individuals must enroll by November 19, 2025, to take advantage of these services.
Federman & Sherwood is investigating this incident to determine whether The Computer Merchant adequately protected the personal information entrusted to it and whether additional legal remedies may be available to affected individuals.
