Mutual of America Financial Group Data Breach – Investigated by Federman & Sherwood
Oklahoma City, Oklahoma (August 22, 2025) – The law firm of Federman & Sherwood announces that it is investigating a data breach involving Mutual of America Financial Group, which recently filed a notice of data breach with the Attorney General of California.
According to the company’s notice, on July 22, 2025, Mutual of America inadvertently sent a secure email containing a data file with personal account information to a plan sponsor not affiliated with the intended recipients. The file included names, Social Security numbers, plan identification numbers, and account balance information.
Although Mutual of America stated that the unintended recipient has confirmed the information was deleted and not shared further, the exposure of sensitive personal data creates significant risks of identity theft and fraud. In response, the company has offered affected individuals 12 months of complimentary Experian IdentityWorks credit monitoring and identity restoration services.
Federman & Sherwood is investigating this incident to determine whether Mutual of America adequately protected the personal information in its care.
