Wood River Health (WRH) Data Breach – Investigated by Federman & Sherwood
Oklahoma City, Oklahoma (July 29, 2025) – The law firm of Federman & Sherwood announces it has launched an investigation into a recent data breach reported by Wood River Health (WRH), a healthcare provider based in Hope Valley, Rhode Island. The breach has been formally disclosed to the Attorney General of Maine and affects at least 64 Maine residents, potentially compromising highly sensitive personal and health information.
According to WRH, the data security incident involved unauthorized access to an employee email account between August 8, 2024, and September 6, 2024. An internal investigation, aided by third-party cybersecurity experts, determined that sensitive data—including names and Social Security numbers—was potentially viewed or exfiltrated.
WRH completed its review of the impacted data on May 29, 2025, and issued written notifications to affected individuals on July 28, 2025. In response, the organization has begun offering 12 months of complimentary credit monitoring and identity restoration services through Cyberscout (a TransUnion company).
Federman & Sherwood is now investigating whether WRH took sufficient steps to safeguard patient data in accordance with applicable laws, including HIPAA and Maine’s data breach notification statute. The firm is also evaluating potential claims on behalf of individuals whose personal and medical information was exposed.
