Community Choice Credit Union Data Breach – Investigated by Federman & Sherwood

Oklahoma City, Oklahoma (July 3, 2025) – The law firm of Federman & Sherwood announces that it is investigating a data breach involving Community Choice Credit Union, which was recently reported to the Office of the Attorney General of Maine. The incident potentially exposed the personal and financial information of individuals associated with the credit union.

According to the notification, Community Choice Credit Union detected a cybersecurity incident on May 28, 2025, after discovering that certain files on its computer network had been encrypted. Upon further investigation, the organization confirmed that an unauthorized third party had accessed and exfiltrated data from its network on or around May 25, 2025.

The information potentially involved in the breach includes individuals’ names, Social Security numbers, and/or Community Choice account numbers. While the credit union stated it has no current evidence of misuse, it has offered affected individuals a complimentary one-year membership to Experian IdentityWorksSM Credit 3B, which provides credit monitoring across all three major credit bureaus, identity restoration services, and up to $1 million in identity theft insurance.

Community Choice Credit Union has also reported the breach to law enforcement and engaged a leading forensic cybersecurity firm to support the investigation and bolster its digital security. Additional technical safeguards have since been implemented.

Federman & Sherwood is investigating whether adequate security protocols were in place to protect sensitive financial and personal data. The firm is committed to ensuring that institutions entrusted with sensitive consumer information are held accountable when that trust is compromised.
